Fair point ;-)
Yvonne Gallagher Jan 12, 2011:
imo gilet should be left untranslated, they were all the rage last year and not at all like waistcoats. As for "cinched in" etc, tailored or fitted is most usual term

tailored/taken in

Is this a typo for cintré/recintré? If so see reference below.

fitted waistcoat / fitted over garment

One the the web references I have quoted uses this very spelling and the picture shows a waistcoat which goes in at the waist (or which is typically "cintré").

So "recintré" could refer to something further taken in at the waist, perhaps?

jacket/cardigan/waistcoat drawn in at the waist

Another one where it's impossible to tell without seeing a picture!

'gilet' is used for garments fitting all 3 of the above categories — it might help if we knew at least if this was a ladies' or gents' garment?

I don't think you should be phased by the use of 're-' — this prefix is often used in FR as a simple intensifier, without any notion of 'again' — cf. 'rentrer', 'rechauffer'

'cintré' is common of course, but I have come across your term 'ceintré' as well — presumably (rightly or wrongly) by association with ceinture. I've even seen it used for 'belted' — as in a long coat, for example.

If I were you, I'd try my hardest to get pictures, or else look at last season's / year's collection from the same catalogue, since they often have similar garments described using the same terms.

Or even jerkin!

Sounds like a sleeveless ladies' woolly, gathered slightly at the waist and worn over this tunic (she'll have cold arms, though, the poor thing!)

Do you have any more clues — for example, from the length, or the material it's made of?
Peer comment(s):

agree Geraldine Bestel : I agree with the association to 'ceinture' and the use of the prefix 're' in French as a form of intensifier.

cinched in is more extreme than nipped in
