English term

developing

English Bus/Financial Management
Works with developing features and functions plans and schedules.

It is the job description for Product Development Life Cycle. I am not sure about the meaning of the word "develop" in this context. Could it mean "prepare"? No other context.

I agree with the latest discussion entry from Adam.
Malwina Chełminiak Jan 16, 2011:
How about... He works with developing plans and schedules. The plans/schedules are related to implementation of features and functions (of a product).

I'm not a native speaker of English, but have read loads of texts like that. Is it possible that the author of the sence is not a native speaker either?

Martin Riordan Jan 16, 2011:
@Kim Or: works with developing features, functions, plans and schedules. It is hard to be certain, as we don´t know the exact job description!
Kim Metzger Jan 16, 2011:
The employee works with developing features and functions and he plans and schedules.
Martin Riordan Jan 16, 2011:
functional It would improve the grammar but not the sense, I think. The idea of "functional" is implicit in "plans and schedules". To me it would make more sense to place a comma after "functions", turning it into a separate item. The word "functions" would include promotional meetings and such things, which could well be part of the job description.
Komeil Zamani Babgohari Jan 16, 2011:
what about functional? Dear Martin you are all correct. does it make sense if we replace functions to functional?
Martin Riordan Jan 16, 2011:
Confusing sentence To me, "developing" is in the sense suggested by two colleagues, "creating/improving". But the word "funcions"? Is is a noun or a verb? If a noun, it requires a comma after it! If a verb, it´s not good English. It should be "makes" or "creates".

I'd say this is the typical fuzzy language used by human resources people. "Works with" means that the job holder doesn't actually develop, he assists in the development.
