French term

volumes de modules en quantité, qualité et coût

French to English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s) Employment contract
"2.1 Le salarié aura, principalement, mais pas exclusivement, les responsabilités suivantes :
• Assurer l’encadrement de la production, de la qualité, de la logistique, de la maintenance et des services techniques ;
• Définir, proposer et mettre en œuvre les plans d’actions permettant d’améliorer les performances QCD en cohérence avec les objectifs du site ;
• Mettre en place les outils d’amélioration continue (Kaizen, 5S, SMED…) ;
• Garantir le suivi du planning de production et * l’obtention des volumes de modules en quantité, qualité et coût * ;
• Anticiper les risques et adapter les moyens mis en œuvre en conséquence ;
• Garantir le respect des standards au sein de l’atelier de production (respect règlement, rangement, propreté,…) ;
• Assurer la coordination de l’application en production des plans d’actions de productivité ainsi que des plans d’actions définis en collaboration avec les équipes qualité ;"

From an employment contract - the employee's duties are listed. Field is manufacturing. I am not sure how to word the listed phrase - the 'volumes' appears to refer to the quantities of the modules, so is it talking about acquiring sufficient quantities of the modules, of the right quality, and at the right price? Or am I way off?

Very thought-provoking! Tony's entry has really made me think...there is unfortunately no further mention of these 'modules' in the contract itself, however manufacturing is certainly part of what this company does. As exceptionally I have email access to the author of the document, I shall be asking her in person on Monday morning to clarify this point. I had already sent her a list of queries on Friday, so was hoping to keep further queries to a minimum, however this is an important point. Will keep you posted! Thanks to all contributors.

with Tony, focus here is on "reaching production targets" not buying - (suivi de production) besides, from the overall description of the job, the person is involved in production while purchasing would be most likley carried out in another dpt

Key context missing! I wouldn't be as sure as PG about this.

I think there is a key bit of context missing, which with any luck, you will have elsewhere.

You see, I don't think 'obtention' relates to things that are bought in; in my admittedly limited experience, I've never actually come across this term used to mean 'purchasing' or 'acquisition'.

So what I'd love to know is if this company actually manufactures these mysterious 'modules'?

Given that it is talking in the same breath about production scheduling, I strongly suspect this is in fact referring to yields, and getting the right volumes of 'modules' manufactured in the right numbers, of the right quality, and at the right cost. It does seem a little odd to talk about both 'volumes' and 'quantity' in the same sentence, but I think I can see what they're getting at...
