Spanish term

como deberían asignarse los precios

Spanish to English Marketing Marketing Pricing

De momento interpreto lo siguiente:

"With regard to pricing, there are studies that establish reasonable assumptions about customer demand in order to develop strategies designed to optimize the expected revenue, showing how price should be allocated based on a number of factors such as the rate at which buyers arrive at the seller's firm, the price they would be willing to pay and the length of the sales period."

Discussion

Jenni Lukac (X) Apr 8, 2011:
I agree with Meirs about "allocate", but I also find "at which buyers arrive" a little strange in English. I think that you should use something else in place of "arrive". The "rate" is fine.
meirs Apr 8, 2011:
how should the prices be assigned (allocated means something slightly different)

This is fairly theoretical economics where the term is allocation. What sounds natural is not the issue here.

eg. " Our main goal is to obtain optimal price-allocation policies for ... and the price elasticity of the riskless demand function d is increasing ... function of price, and optimize both price and protection level. ... In a broader scope survey of dynamic pricing, Elmaghraby and Keskinocak (2003) bring ..."

"Pricing is also a key variable in microeconomic price allocation theory. ... The needs of the consumer can be converted into demand only if the consumer has ... A good pricing strategy would be the one which could balance between the price ... accounts for a large percentage of buyers' available income or budget. ..."

Etc.

By the way, from your other question I cited

"Demand for a given inventory (or a manufacturing capacity) which has ... customer arrival and the reservation price distribution may change over time. ...... [9] Gallego G., Van Ryzin G.J. (1994), Optimal dynamic pricing of inventories with stochastic demand over finite horizon, Management Science 40; 999-1020. ..."

which tells you what " llegada de compradores" means, i.e. 'customer arrival'.

agree Charles Davis : "Price allocation" is indeed a common term in economics. You also find "assign" very frequently here.

how prices should be determined

This seems to me a more natural verb to use. What "asignar" really means here is putting an appropriate price on things, and the real point is deciding in each case what that price should be. I think your suggestion of "pricing" for "asignación de precios" at the beginning is fine.

Thanks, mediamatrix
agree Andy Watkinson : "Determined" would be my 1st choice, but would use "pricing", not "prices": not the same thing. What's being determined is the pricing policy. Not the prices themselves, I'd say.

Thanks, Andy. I see your point. I'm not sure which it should be.

how prices should be set

The most common collocation for prices in this context I think...

agree Charles Davis : A perfectly valid option, I think
