Swedish term

ytterfodral

Swedish to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Protective vest
Ytterfodral som främst är avsett att bäras under jacka, tröja eller liknande.

I'm not totally sure of the standard translation of this when it comes to bullet/stab-proof vests. Thaks for suggestions.

Discussion

Matthew Preston (asker) May 12, 2011:
Outer layer looks good, as opposed to the whole vest. Thanks.
Åsa Schoening May 11, 2011:
I like "outer layer" and in this reference it is part of the vest: http://www.ehow.com/list_6631276_materials-bulletproof-vests... I also thought of "outer sheath," but perhaps "layer" is just the simpler and therefore the more common term??
Christopher Schröder May 11, 2011:
outer layer? just an idea
Matthew Preston (asker) May 11, 2011:
To add to my initial question, I wonder if ytterfodral could be translated as an "outer sheath"? The ytterfodral is just part of the Skyddsvästa, and as I am translating Skyddsvästa as a protection vest I'm not sure if "outer tactical vest" works?
