Could anyone tell me how to translate tempera grassa?
I know tempera is tempera in English too, but "grassa" - maybe oily?
Thanks

tempera grassa
My feeling is that this would be best left in the Italian as it is a recognised medium in English too, in contrast with egg tempera. Perhaps with an explanatory note depending on the context.

egg-oil tempera
This is a form of tempera which includes the addition of oil. It's usually referred to as "egg-oil tempera" or "egg/oil tempera".

Leaving it in Italian, as Laura suggests, is fine too and would probably be preferable if describing a historic Italian work.

: "Egg/oil" is better than "egg-oil" because it takes out the ambiguity.
