no frigir dos ovos

Portuguese to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
What is the equivalent idiom in English? I could use "after all" or something to this effect, but other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Obrigada, Gilmar!
Gilmar Fernandes Jun 30, 2011:
"after all" se encaixa perfeitamente na sua frase
Carla Saboia (asker) Jun 30, 2011:
adding more context... "(...) não há como infringir direitos morais [de pessoas jurídicas], que são, no frigir dos ovos, ficção jurídica."

at the end of the day

A bit more informal than 'after all'.
Note from asker:
This is a good option too, Lindsay. Thanks!

Obrigada, Gilmar. Eu inseri a frase inteira acima, para dar mais contexto.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks Muriel :) Yes, 'after all' fits better in that particular sentence.
agree R. Alex Jenkins : I agree with MVC, above. After reading the context, "After all" fits better

when the chips are down

I think a saying in in order here. If I'm not mistaken, "when the chips are down" could be a good candidate. If I understand the Brazilian saying correctly, it's a perfect match. Please check the link.

Encontrei uma definição de "no frigir dos ovos" no Aulete:

Thanks, Edimilson. I'm not sure if the English idiom has exactly the same meaning, though, as, according to the definition in the link above, it applies "When a situation is urgent or desperate." Thanks!
