Voici une tournure de phrase très anglaise mais qui me pose problème à la traduction, car je ne suis pas sûre qu'on puisse dire la même chose en français? j'ai pensé à: "AUCUN THEME NE POURRAIT ETRE PLUS IMPORTANT A LEURS YEUX QUE CELUI DE NOTRE CONFERENCE"

Depending on how you've translated men and women with faces and names, you would need to use either eux or elles. For example, ces gens -->eux or ces personnes -->elles.
French uses lots of conditionals that are not always appropriate in English. I prefer the simple present in this case.

"Thème" ne me semble pas approprié ici. A mon sens, la pauvreté, c'est plus une question/un problème, à la rigueur un sujet, qu'un thème.
