Spanish term

Ya se acabó de pedo.

Spanish to English Other Slang Ya se acabó de pedo.
The speaker is referring to some problems that he had, then he says, "Ya se acabó de pedo." The speaker is Mexican.

Thank you.

Oscar Rivera Jul 24, 2011:
I repeat this: we don't know if it's a problem, mess, hassle. Can you give us the sentence that comes before it or the context at least, skam?
Elda Munguia Jul 23, 2011:
En Mexico si decimos "se acabó el pedo", en ese caso el pedo es una situación o un problema. Saludos!
Marina56 Jul 23, 2011:
Exacto: No se dice EL PEDO, es AL PEDO.
skam (asker) Jul 23, 2011:
The phrase is exactly as it is written above: DE pedo. Not "el pedo" Thank you.
Marina56 Jul 23, 2011:
And just to confirm what others have pointed out, And just to confirm what others have pointed out, it would usually be 'ya se acabó EL pedo'...
Decir que algo se acabó "de pedo" quiere decir que se realizó de pura suerte o casualidad (esto es muy argentino), Ej: Me salió de puro pedo "Lo hice por casualidad o se me dio por pura casualidad". "Estar al pedo" (Estar sin hacer nada). Ej: Te puedo ayudar ya que estoy "al pedo".
lorenab23 Jul 22, 2011:
skam I am reversing the pair in all your questions, they should be Spanish to English and not the other way around...

The problem ended suddenly

Es diferente se acabó de pedo que se acabó EL pedo. De pedo significa que fue rápido o abrupto.

También puede significar que fue por suerte, depende del contexto.

agree Tom2004 : indeed, IMHO, 'de pedo' = 'de repente'. I hope Henry weighs in on this one!

It should be "Ya se acabó el pedo".

Saludos,

Hi Oscar, thanks for the comment. I'm not commenting on where the term MAY be used. In this particular case, I know that the speaker is Mexican. The way I wrote the phrase is exactly what the speaker said, although it may seem wrong. Thank you
Peer comment(s):

disagree Oscar Rivera : To use the word "pedo" doesn't only confine to México when used on daily basis during informal conversations. In Argentina, it is used. I don't mean to attack you. It's just a comment.

neutral Oscar Rivera : To me, it doesn't have the same "force" or meaning implied in "de pedo". I don't mean to attack you or anything. It's just a comment.

"Problem solved".

"Problem solved":

A typical (slang and somewhat vulgar) expression used in Mexico.
Literally, it means: " The fart has passed..." sdomewhat humouorus, if you think about it:

agree James A. Walsh : I like "problem solved" here; it has a sense of "that's it" to it that conveys a similar feel, I reckon. Saludos eski ;-)

Thanks James, yes-it's knd of like: "Well that's that; problem solved." Saludos, eski :))
neutral fionn : Just to point out that the translation of 'pedo' as 'fart' is irrelevant in this context. 'pedo' means 'problem', 'thing', 'asunto' - no-one thinks about the 'fart' association when they use this phrase! // saludos!

Thanks for your comment fionn: I just thought that it's a funny coincidence, but you're right: Like many Mexican popular expressions -'pedo' indeed has more than one meaning: drunk, fart, problem, issue, etc., Saludos. eski :))

This shit is done, man.

That's the gist of the idea...
Like I said, we need to maintain the same level of slang... stronger language is indeed called for!

And just to confirm what others have pointed out, it would usually be 'ya se acabó EL pedo'...
Peer comment(s):

agree Altogringo : Agree re stronger for slang (always). I might say "But enough of that shit" Or "I already had enough of that shit" Myself, even though it's off phrase.//Or "Later for this shit", or the all-purpose "Fuck this shit", of course.

Thanks! Also "I'm through wth this shit"...
disagree Oscar Rivera : Stronger language is called for but in your answer imo, you're placing emphasis on "shit" whereas the emphasis should be on "de pedo" meaning "suddenly and by chance" and we don't know if it's a problem, mess, hassle what's over. Regards.

It's over by chance (guide suggestion)

I don't know the context of the phrase iin Argentina "de pedo" (slang) means "by chance, fortunately" -I don't know in the rest of Latin America. This phrase carries an informal/ non-colloquial meaning and to use "by chance" would get the same level of informality and serendipitous honesty when the speaker uttered those words.

IMHO, that's the meaning, we don't know if it's a problem, a hassle or what that's over. To say It's over by chance or Fortunately, it's over would get the idea across yet not the same implication of the slang phrase.

So my answer is like guidance. I hope it helps you.

@skam I know you weren't interested in where the phrase was used but it may help you as the same word means differently in different parts. Regards.

I repeat we don't know if it's a problem, mess, hassle. Can you give us the sentence that comes before it or the context at least, skam?
Note from asker:
I know that it means different things in different countries. That's why I specified that the speaker is Mexican. Unfortunately, I can't give anything more. It's a recording with a lot of unintelligible things, and that's part of the problem for me. There's no good context.
