Lo stesso vantaggio è stato presentato anche nella valutazione di diversi parametri e nella riduzione del numero di riacerbazioni di BPCO durante tutto il follow-up.

This is a small piece about a new medicinal drug for treating COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). I am not sure of the meaning of "riacerbazione". Can anyone help?

yes, flare-up is quite common in medical texts, too, but perhaps in less formal literature, I agree. thank you
