Hi Lalit! - Good comments; It's a matter of nuance, and the final choice of words would have to be decided based on the tone of the complete passage. मुझे यह "इधर उधर" बस थोडा फीका लगा :-)

Yes, but it is used to indicate not merely the bare fact of movement, but also that this movement is meaningless, or futile. // Not necessarily disagreeing with Lalit, just adding some more context :-)
