"Bande son" is more général, it can be any musical sequence.
"Motif musical" doesn't sound right in my little French ears

disagree  Tony M: It's certainly not the 'générique' (= 'title music' in EN), this is quite distinct from that, a very specific notion. I think 'bande son' is also much too general
