Non-PRO English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters demeaning a person's accomplishments
Hello everyone,

The context is a dialogue between 2 friends who have fallen out.
The reason why is because the 1st friend gave up smoking 6 months ago and hasn't smoked since, and although really proud of his achievement, is told by others that "giving us smoking is very easy"

The 1st friend feels that his accomplishment has been demeaned/diminished/made to feel less significant that it really is.

What is the correct word in British English for this, I just cannot place it, and I can't get anywhere with Google Thesaurus.

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : Or 'trivialized'.

agree Suzan Hamer : Belittled, not undermined. Also, discounted, disparaged, pooh-poohed, put down, minimized, or as Tina said, trivialized (in UK EN I believe that would be trivialised).

played down

To downplay is to represent something as less significant or important.
Example sentence:

He resented the fact that his friends played down something he thought was so difficult to accomplish.

Peer comment(s):

agree Suzan Hamer : This is a good option also.
