Architectural drawings
This is from a book about the history of architectural drawing.
In other words, this was the original design, created by trial and error on the parchment, rather than a copy.
Zirkeleinstichpunkte are compass holes, but I can't work out what Blindrillen are. Blind creases, perhaps - but this means nothing to me, and Googling hasn't helped. Can anyone provide any insights, please?

Here's an explanation of "Blindrille" I've found:

: Though I don't think 'groove-like' is great. They are grooves/It is scoring./But useful ref.

I think scored or incised lines even gets the point across. I would have thought they would have been made by the architect's / mason's tools of the trade. Clarissa's ref confirms.

See contemporary use of stylus or 'hard point' in illuminated manuscript production:
Hard Point - a stylus made of metal or bone used for Ruling, leaving lightly scored lines on the parchment that guided the scribe's hand in laying text down in straight lines across the page. Sometimes used to inscribe the outlines of a drawing. Also see Lead Point.

Thanks, Helen. I had an idea it was something like this, but I didn't know what created the marks. |

Stephen Reader
: esp. w/ scoring since cf. native-Eng. usage, <http://www.scribd.com/doc/17821606/Architect-Drawings-World-...>, enter search term 'scored' there. Thx to Clarissa for point of dep. for Eng-lang. search. / Thx, Helen, +1 gloss to coll.! S

Thanks, Stephen, not easy to do so from my phone, but glad you've found useful ref for Phil. I think scoring best, too./You might be interested in my last link particularly.
