Yes, This is good appreciation. According to my knowledge, "Hadtis or Hadith is conducation (riwayat) Nabi SAW." In this context is the riwayat (conduction) of Nabi had been explained or narrated by Bukhari or in complete name Bukhari Muslim. So in Hadits Books, every conduction which was explained by narrator (perowi) always stated using "by". For example, by Bukhari, Tirmidzi, Aisah, or Abu Daud etc.

I'd appreciate it if you could clarify the sense of Riwayat here, even if it is best left implicit in English. Does it mean Riwayat Nabi, in the sense of "biographical hadith" or does it mean Hadis yang diriwayatkan, that is "hadith narrated" as in Edward's answer, or something else again?
