newline carriage return
This is standard computer basics.
In ascii this is in fact two characters one for "nuova riga" (10 - newline or linefeed) and one for "a capo" (13 - carriage return) taken from old fashion typewriters where you have two actions of going down a line and returning to beginning of the line. Many computer languages combine the two into one character which does both actions in one, which is what happens when you hit return on your keyboard and two ascii characters are sent to the computer (10 and 13), while normally if you hit for example the letter "a" only one character is sent, which is 97.
