Spanish term

canoillos

Spanish to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
I can´t seem to find any reference to the word canoillos:

Utensilios de bodega.
Canoas, canoillos, jarras, rociadores…
Durante el proceso de crianza del vino de Jerez bajo el sistema de Criaderas y Solera (hipervínculo a apartado que explica esto en web Grupo), toma especial importancia el movimiento del vino, también llamado trasiego.

Not sure if it´s a typo or I´m just not looking in the right place!

Thanks for your help! I´m waiting to hear back from the client with some input, but at this stage I think I´ll end up leaving it as canoa and canoillo as they don´t seem to have official translations.

I've just watched the video (thanks, Noni!). The "canoa" is pretty big, isn't it? Doesn't surprise me that they have smaller ones too, and what are they going to call them?
Charles Davis Jan 18, 2013:
Here's a canoa which some sites call a "canoe", but I don't think this English term has any official status.

But "canoíllos" has surely got to be an error for "canoíllas", as in little "canoas" (as Noni suggests). The diminutive "canoílla" does exist (albeit rare) for a little canoe, but "canoíllo" doesn't exist at all.
Noni Gilbert Riley Jan 18, 2013:
Little canoe That would be my best bet at the moment. But I can't find either "canoillo" or, as I suspected, "canoilla" in this sense...
Noni Gilbert Riley Jan 18, 2013:
Not making much progress on canoillo, but I didn't recognise canoa, either so I checked.... Oh ye of little faith!
You can see it being used in the second video on this page.

Which makes me doubt canoillo less!

I agree with other contributors that canoillo has to be a smaller canoa. As we don't make sherry in England I think you should leave the Spanish name with an explanation
