Spanish term

conciliar la realización de las prácticas con aquellas actividades y situaciones

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Internship Agreement
Hi there,

Another one from a clause in a collaboration agreement template for a Spanish university. The agreement will be used for external internships for the students of this university.

This clause lists the rights and duties of students while doing internships, and these two points cover cover students with disabilities.

Suggestions most welcome!

Context:

Sexta.- Derechos y deberes del alumnado

Going into UK English. Thanks in advance.

Discussion

James A. Walsh (asker) Feb 23, 2013:
Yeah, I know... I find the Spanish painful!
Richard Hill Feb 23, 2013:
"strike a balance" is the idea but as a right, sounds a bit iffy
James A. Walsh (asker) Feb 23, 2013:
Strike a balance between? Thanks for your suggestions, people. Appreciate it. I'm getting a distinct sense of to "strike a balance between" from "conciliar [...] la realización + con". What does anyone think?

My current draft is:

“In the case of students with disabilities, the right to strike a balance between the activities involved in the internship and the personal circumstances arising from or connected to their disability.”

“A conciliar, en el caso de los estudiantes con discapacidad, la realización de las prácticas con aquellas actividades y situaciones personales derivadas o conectadas con la situación de discapacidad.”

Not really sure about “right to strike a balance between” though. Opinions welcome :)

organize their internship work around their disability-related activities/needs

It seems to mean that disabled students can organize their work around their disabilities.

Assuming "prácticas" is "internships" as per your other open question:

Disabled students are entitled to organize their internship work around their disability-related activities/needs.

or

In the case of disabled students, they/disabled students will be afforded the necessary facilities during their internship for their disability-related activities/needs.

Thanks, BC. I found this pdf on Friday, and have been using certain bits from it, but it's a pretty patchy translation in places... I'm getting a distinct sense of to "strike a balance" from "conciliar". Cheers :)
