Unit standards are just small bits of learning and if you get enough of them you can get a national qualification. They also go towards your NCEA results.

When you choose to do a unit standard we will send you the leaning material (that covers all the information you need) and the assessment material (that has written questions and a workplace practical assessment).

Each unit standard is set at a particular level (Gateway ones are levels 1, 2 and 3) and is worth a number of credits. You can work out how long you should spend on a unit standard by allowing 10 hours per credit (this could be time spent reading the learning material, practicing the tasks at work, learning from your workmates and completing the practical assessment).
