Italian term

lessicamento dello strato pittorico

Italian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Work
if the signature had been appended on top of the crack, it would take years to become apparent. context where the above appears:(if the signature had been) posta sopra la linea di craquelure che necessita per definizione di diversi decenni di tempo prima di potersi manifestare e cioe´ solo quando léssicamento dello strato pittorico e´particolarmente avanzato

Discussion

Josephine Cassar (asker) May 30, 2013:
tks, that's the crux of the matter- they need to find out if signature was added before or after- if after, then it would take several decades
Neptunia May 30, 2013:
craquelure takes years just a note - - usually it is the craquelure that by definition takes years to appear not a signature that may have been added later.

drying of the painted surface

I think this must be a typo for a derivation of essiccare - to dry/dry out.
Note from asker:
thks, did not realise it was l'essicamento

drying

Looks to me like a typo for l'essiccamento, the drying of the paint surface. In other words, the apostrophe is missing.
Note from asker:
it put me off completely, the missing apostrophe I mean, didn't realise, tks
