Norwegian term
spleiselag
Norwegian to English
Bus/Financial
Business/Commerce (general)
Referring to the financing of expensive infrastructure projects in Norway (it's those pesky mountains!), the following is said:
"XXX har i mange tilfeller gått sammen med de lokale myndighetene om det vi kaller spleiselag."
Now the meaning is quite clear - it's a jointly funded project. In this case a public/private initiative. But I feel that "spleiselag" is more generic. Amusingly the dictionary suggests it's "to go Dutch" or a "bottle party" - the etymology is Dutch (we have it in English to, "to splice"). Much as I would like to say that Multinational A is having a bottle party with Norwegian municipality B, I feel that might not cut it. What's a nice clean term that is fairly general?
