If a distinction is intended, I would expect something like the course and the lumen (or contours on the ultrasound image) is normal; that is, there is neither malformation nor obstruction of the artery. However, I don't know enough Spanish to tell whether "trayecto" and "recorrido" might fit with this (or whether it's simply the poetic license).

These doppler studies/ultrasounds check for (among other things)
1) narrowing of the carotid arteries
2) flow (possible blockages such as clots)
3) Possible congenital malformations/anomalities. I think the text in question may refers to this and the other portion you posted later "flujo por arterias, etc. refers to flow (two separate things)

One more comment: trayecto can also refer to the distance covered throughout the path.

I agree with Lorena.... somebody claimed a bit of poetic license here. I don't think it would make a difference to leave one out, but if you want to remain as true as possible to the original my comment above may help.

Trayecto y recorrido is redundant. The trayecto of the arteries (where they start and where they go to) is known as course, please see here:

Hi Ronaldo,

I think you may have something there. I don't know enough about these carotid doppler studies to be sure. However, this report also mentions the direction of the flow of the circulation: "flujo por arterias vertebrales conservado en sentido cefálico". Maybe they're also talking about this flow direction in these carotid arteries. I hope somebody with more medical knowledge will show up and comment on this.

No, I would not use "trajectory" for "trayecto" as it is used in this text. It sounds more like, "the direction", as opposed to a mathematical trajectory or curve, as that of a launched object or something like that, although I can't think of a solid argument supporting this distinction...

What I don't understand is the use of both words, as they are almost synonymous. But, if you must use both, here's a suggestion:

"trayecto" is "the direction/the heading", and

"recorrido"is "the route/path"

If it sounds reasonable, I'll post as an answer... hope it helps.f
