Yet another type of Italian medical care agency ... I get lost in all the different types of Aziende and Unità! I find this acronym ASP in the name of a mental health agency, and I see that it stands for "Azienda di Sanità Pubblica". What is an Azienda di Sanità Pubblica, and how would you say it in English?

capitalisation? what do people think about the policy of not using caps in translations? Should it be "provincial healthcare authority" instead, because it's a description (literal translation) and not an official title? I think so, but then it looks a bit ugly after a proper name.

Such a variety of answers! Like I said, I get lost with all of these Italian aziende and unita' ... so of course I get SIX different suggestions for this one term! Thank you all for your suggestions; I chose to trust Cedric's local perspective.

Hi Joe, I thought you might be wise to this already.
"Azienda" is mainly equivalent of Hospital in this context.
You can add Public Hospital, if it makes you feel better, but all the rest of the answers are fine, but do not really communicate the relity of the situation which is best, in my estimation, described by this one word, which is what it is in reality. I know as I spent quite a bit of time in one last year.

Definitely Provincial, and for the sake of sanity ;o) I would differentiate 'healthcare' (all one word) from 'health' (salute).
