Dutch term

overstuiving

Dutch to English Other Geography
Hi there

I am translation an academic text about the effects of nitrogen deposition on plant species. I came across this term in the following context:

'Overstuiving met vers mineraalrijk zand leidt juist tot een verbetering van de voedselkwaliteit van buntgras en daarmee tot een hogere overleving en groei van knopsprietjes.'

I found a helpful definition at this link: http://www.encyclo.nl/begrip/overstuiving but am unsure what the English translation should be. I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks.

'However, sand deposition caused an increase in growth rate greater than expected from the amount of nutrients present in the soil (Willis 1965) and degeneration also takes place in the absence of other plant species (Hope-Simpson and Jefferies 1966, Disraeli 1984)' (http://edepot.wur.nl/121616 )

What do you mean to say by quoting Helen’s source context? / my answer contained: ❝another term for 'overstuiving' is 'sand deposition'❞
agree philgoddard : Looks like deposition is the technical term.

Thanks Phil! I think 'sand deposition' is indeed the best suited term in this context.
agree Lianne van de Ven : sand deposition (or "the covering with" rather than becoming covered)
