French term
chaussée réservoir
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Construction / Civil Engineering
UK English, SUDS
"Le puits est souvent associé à des techniques de stockage de type chaussée réservoir, tranchée drainante, fossé ou même bassin de rétention, dont il recueille le débit de fuite."
I understand this to mean a permeably paved roadway with a base course that can temporary hold a fairly large quantity of rainwater. However, I have not been able to find a suitable English term for it. Please note that I am looking for a term that is in current use, not for creative guesses.

not my field and you can probably say it with fewer words but I think it's something along these lines

Comment: "Thanks gallagy. That is about as concise as it gets, as there doesn't seem to be any specific English term for this."

filter tank/filtering tank
filter tank is a tank with filter provided therein.
Note from asker:
Thank you for that explanation, but your proposed answer has no real connection with my source term! |

permeable paving
In French, "chaussée réservoir" is a general term for that kind of construction. Then it can be called "chaussée drainante" or "chaussée d'infiltration" depending on the kind of water evacuation. "Chaussée" is general to roads, sidewalks, pathes, etc... Hope it will help you.
Note from asker:
Thanks Tartalo. That does sound very likely. However, it leaves the slight problem that not all permeable paving has any storage capacity, so I'd still need a term to specify that this type does. |

Note from asker:
Thanks fourth. Unfortunately, your reference is so execrably translated from the French, that it is quite useless. The term you have plucked from it not only sounds most unlikely, but this is confirmed by the fact that the only google.fr hits for the term are that same website and this page. |
Sorry to have sounded unappreciative, but: "The retention basin for rainwater aims at limiting the strong flow rate of rainwater to the network which would lead to the saturation of sewer systems, the overflowing of thunderstorms flows and the pollutions towards the natural environment" is not English as she is writ, and certainly not by any surveyor or engineer! |
