Explanation:
Hi again!

(Acronyms are an interesting challenge.)

Also see: "La possibilità di rilevare anomalie specifiche con l’EEG di routine aumenta fino al 90% con la durata della registrazione, l’esecuzione di prove di attivazione (iperventilazione, stimolazione
luminosa intermittente) ... " I'm thinking that "iperventilazione" might by a synonym for "iperpnea", both of them meaning increased/more intense breathing.

This same document has a glossary showing "Hp: Iperventilazione"

I'm thinking it's more and more likely that HP = iperpnea in this EEG context: "Si segnala la ricorrenza, soprattutto nel post-iperpnea, di sharp-waves di ampio voltaggio nelle derivazioni fronto-centro-temporali, con prevalenza a destra e modesta tendenza alla diffusione controlaterale sincrona."

Liz's Italian example below also shows that HP = iperventilazione.

Although HP = "hyperpnea", probably your actual translation should say HV or "Hyperventilation" since it appears that this is the most commonly used term in this context: "Voluntary hyperventilation (HV) has been widely used in clinical EEG laboratories as “activation method” to enhance preexisting abnormalities and / or induce abnormal findings in an otherwise normal electroencephalogram(EEG)"

Also, for example: "It is well established that voluntary hyperventilation (HV) slows down electroencephalographic (EEG) rhythms. Little information is available, however,
on the effects of HV on cortical responses elicited by
sensory stimulation. "

-> Ciao Liz. It seems to me that "iperventilazione" and "iperpnea" would refer to the same thing, as I wrote above ... in this case, deliberately intensified breathing to see what happens on the EEG.

Asker: Thank you so much Liz. In the same document I found other occurrences for hyperpnea, so that's my term :)

agree  Joseph Tein: Yes, although HP points to hyperpnea, I think hyperventilation points to the same technique.
