Arabic term

ألم عاج في البطن

Arabic to English Medical Medical (general) questionnaire for myeloproliferative disease
ألم عاج في البطن

This is an response entry in an item in a assessment questionnaire for myeloprolifertaitve disease.

I wonder if I can translate this as "diffuse abdominal pain"... or if the

عاج is a typo for "general = 'am'...

Thank you

Thank you, Aurelien You may be right... but I don't know... a previous translator had translated it as "general" as well.. I am not saying you are wrong. It's just that I made a choice at that time based on what I thought was right. Also I did not hear back from the client anything regarding "general" being the wrong translation. It is, possible that it is a typo... right? I don't have "aaj ila"... I have "'aaj fi".. I think you are saying that means "located in"...?
I am sorry if I made the wrong decision. However, I have not heard anything back from the client.. which makes me think that they were in agreement with that translation. Thank you again.

You can find عاج الى in Lisaan Al Arab Dictionnary but I've it on the paper version. You can also find عاج على here http://www.almaany.com/home.php?language=arabic&word=عاج&lan...
and it means "lodge at"

Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) Jul 27, 2014:
Thank you Aurelien I do know that the word means ivory.
I just would like to see a dictionary entry where it means (with the preposition "ila") "located in"... Is there such a reference that you can present?
Thank you again.
KLamTranslation Jul 27, 2014:
After some inquieries, I think it's not correct. Every moroccan dialect speaker told me the same thing : 3aj in moroccan means Ivory as in standard Arabic. But in classical arabic, عاج الى means "located in"
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) Jul 23, 2014:
Sorry for the typo should be "then" not "than"... something I constantly complain about :)
Zareh Darakjian Ph.D. (asker) Jul 23, 2014:
Thank you... Ahmed and Aurelien Would it be correct than to conclude that
عام and عاج are one and the same except that the second one is Moroccan dialect? (I failed to mention that this is from Morocco)...

Dear Dr. Darakjian

I still see that there is a typo in writing
عاج
instead of
عام

To make sure, i logged into Google Morocco and wrote
ألم عاج
to find that no tangible results. Please find here-under the meanings of the word
عاج
which are totally irrelevant to our subject.

http://www.almaany.com/home.php?language=arabic&word=عاج&cat...

Therefore; I think that "general abdominal pain" is the right answer.

Good Luck

sorry for the word "that" which should be omitted in this phrase
"to find that no tangible results". Lol

A pain located in the abdomen/belly/venter/stomach

I'm sure about عاج but for بطن it can be many places since the abdomen and the stomach is not the same place

Accute abdominal pain

I just wanted to say that I am from Morocco and I've never heard the term "3aj", maybe it's a typo? Gosh, I have no idea what it could be, "7ad" or "3am". In Morocco they don't use Moroccan dialect in written form, so it's still Fus'ha or as close as we can get to it.
