Es handelt sich um einen Unterpunkt einer Aufzählung und es geht um Gründe, warum eine automatisierte sprachwissenschaftliche Analyse sinnvoll sein kann.
Ich habe als Rohentwurf sowas gebastelt:
[That way terms can be analyzed] as reflection of traditions of formulating or of conventions of language use.
Klingt in meinen Ohren irgendwie total furchtbar.
Ich wäre für die Meinung eines Muttersprachlers und natürlich für Verbesserungsvorschläge dankbar!

In linguistics, phraseology is the study of set or fixed expressions, such as idioms, phrasal verbs, and other types of multi-word lexical units (often collectively referred to as phrasemes), in which the component parts of the expression take on a meaning more specific than or otherwise not predictable from the sum of their meanings when used independently.

1 more general and may include multiple types of literary vehicles/devices (words phrases sentences etc)
2 more specific referring to phrases (groups of words functioning as a single unit) or sentence construction
3 more specific referring to a word or word group similar to phrase often shorter and/or more specific
For the context here, I prefer the more specific "phrasing" to emphasize the act of "formulating/phrasing/wording" versus phraseology and to distinguish it from the linguistic discipline called "phraseology."

Thus, terms reflecting traditional formulations and/or colloquialisms (?) can be analyzed.

traditional phrasings

Discussion
Man könnte natürlich noch untersuchen, welche Zusammenhänge es sind, die den Plural "phrasings" erlauben – das sind nämlich nicht wenige. Aber, wie gesagt, das lohnt sich glaube ich nicht mehr.
Thus, it's not criticism.
The other part was in response to the asker's use of "and" for "bzw.", which is I believe important here.
In addition, I was trying to figure out whether I could agree with anyone here on a rendering, since selecting a question is up to the "community" now. But I guess I cannot.

Compare: "wedding traditions" (customs of) <> "traditional weddings (instances of).
"Ich bin mir sicher, dass die Autoren so etwas im Sinn hatten wie die verschiedenen "Bedeutungen", die in dem Lexikoneintrag eines Begriffs nacheinander aufgeführt sind"
If that were so, then I'd rather not use "phrasing" at all.
Du kannst aber auch bei allen anderen Vorschlägen sehen, dass keiner auf den Plural verzichten möchte: "patterns", "techniques", "formulations" etc.
http://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/beziehungsweise
@Andreas: "des Formulierens" is singular, so why would you need a plural?
@Bernhard: "phrases" and "phrasings" seem to be two different things - the first is a plural of a combination of words; the second is "ways to phrase something". I agree with "phrasing", also because I'm not even certain I am so comfortable with a plural here (mass noun, anyone?)
Ich habe die Vorschläge von Donald und Bernhard kombiniert und mich für folgende Version entschieden:
That way terms can be analyzed as reflecting traditions of phrasing and conventions of language use.
"traditional phrasing patterns" fand ich auch passend, aber es gibt bereits andere Listenpunkte, die mit der Erkennung von Mustern etc. argumentieren.
Ihr wart mir eine große Hilfe!
That way terms can be analyzed as reflecting traditions of both formulating as well as of conventions of language usage.
Perhaps.
