Greetings,
I actually know the meaning of this phrase, yet I wonder how can I translate it in a literary manner.
Here is the context:
Dad’s closet remained a constant for the 18 years I knew him, though I had no idea how important it would one day become. A brain tumor ate away at the parts of the mind that made Louis Harry Beres the special person he was—sharp, warm, and the best kind of always-prepared worrier—until he was bound, mostly silent, to a hospice-provided chair. But when your body goes, your closet stays.

Thanks in advance,

To be literary in your approach towards the text, you need to exercise more freedom, as you cannot translate literary and literally at the same time. Something must give in.

Please notice that I have tried to be more free as the translation descends.
تومور/غده توی سرش مثل خوره آن بخش های حافظه اش را خورد/ آن بخش های حافظه اش را مثل شمع آب کرد که لویس هری چه انسان خاصی بود – تند و تیز، گرم، و غمخوار حاضر به یراق، تا این که (سرانجام)، غالبا خاموش، اسیر و عبیر/پابست صندلی آسایشگاه شد.
