French term

siglés sur la tranche

French to English Marketing Textiles / Clothing / Fashion buttons on a man's jacket
Hello,

This appears in the description of a man's jacket ;

Veste caban homme en toile de coton, double boutonnage, boutons siglés sur la tranche

I'm guessing it means the buttons bear the brand's logo on the upper side but does anyone have a better idea?

Thanks for your suggestions!

logo round the edge

I'm not sure, but I suspect that the 'tranche' is in fact the 'edge' of the button — should be farily easy to check.

agree patrickfor : yes siglé=logo la tranche=le bord. Find this quite unusual but that's what it says !

Merci, Patrick ! Yes, me too; perhaps they are particularly 'chunky' buttons.
agree B D Finch : Probably the sort of buttons that have a flat, raised rim, so the logos would be on the front, not the side of the buttons. http://wysegarment.buy.weamax.com/iz524ceb7-laser-logo-shirt...

B! I was thinking of that, like some metal jeans buttons; however, I don't believe that would be what they'd refer to as 'tranche'; unless maybe its a bevelled edge?
agree AbrahamS : "With a logo around the edge" sounds good to me. But if they used the word "tranche", the logo would definitely be on the side of the buttons, not on the front.

Thanks, Abraham! That's the way I understand it too.
agree Sheri P : I imagine it's something like this http://images.delcampe.com/img_large/auction/000/302/104/180...

Thanks, Sheri! / Yes, that's the sort of idea I had in mind...
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Buttons can also have a raised up bit in the middlde, leaving a sort of ledge around the edge of the top surface. "Tranche" is used that way here : http://www.quandnosgrandsmerescousaient.com/PBSCProduct.asp?...

You can see the letters around the edge of the buttons by clicking on the photo that showcases the buttons (fourth from the top), then zooming in. The letters say "BARBARA BUI."
