Czech term

Dramaturg

Discussion

Hannah Geiger (X) Mar 21, 2016:
I see, thanks. :)
Petr Kedzior (asker) Mar 21, 2016:
Hannah Sorry for the confusion, but I cannot name the organization that is a co-producer of this movie. Anyway, this entity has a "dramaturg", who is the member of its staff, perhaps someone responsible for choosing the projects that they will finance.
Hannah Geiger (X) Mar 21, 2016:
to Petr We may have some terminology confusion here, I think, because producers or co-producers are the chaps that bring the money in, i.e. finance, marketing, etc. Or am I getting something wrong here?
Hannah Geiger (X) Mar 21, 2016:
Yes, script- related duties are some duties of the dramaturge, as the link in my answer indicates. I would probably put film dramaturge/film dramaturg, which is an existing position in the industry
Stuart Hoskins Mar 21, 2016:
If it's for a film, the dramaturg is often the "script editor"
Petr Kedzior (asker) Mar 21, 2016:
It is position in a feature film co-production, a person representing one of the co-producers
Elizabeth Spacilova Mar 21, 2016:
Context There are different titles depending on the medium/venue. Specifically what kind of "dramaturg" are you looking for - theatre/film/tv ... or festivals/events ... ?

Script editor

"A script editor is a member of the production team of scripted television programmes, usually dramas and comedies. The script editor has many responsibilities including finding new script writers, developing storyline and series ideas with writers, ensuring that scripts are suitable for production. The script editor will work closely with the writer at each draft of their script, giving the writer feedback on the quality of their work, suggesting improvements that can be made whilst also ensuring that practical issues like show continuity and correct running time are adhered to. Unlike the writers, script editors will usually be full-time members of the production team, working closely with the producer."

agree Stuart Hoskins : Yes, this was my feeling, too, once Petr had clarified.

artistic director

“The Artistic Director of a theatre company is the individual with the overarching artistic control of the theatre's production choices, directorial choices, and overall artistic vision.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artistic_director

“The repertoire is selected by artistic director Michael Gurevitch”

“Our repertoire is selected by our Artistic Director, D. Shawn Berry, and his staff. “

But as Elizabeth notes, more context may be needed (your quote is straight from Wikipedie)
Note from asker:
Thank you, Stuart, and sorry for not providing adequate context right away!

neutral Hannah Geiger (X) : these two positions are different see http://www.backstage.com/news/the-dramaturg-help-or-hindranc... and other eamples

I think Petr is looking for a word people can identify with and the link you have provided conveys the English speaker's bewilderment. There is probably some overlap (I don't think a "dramaturge" is responsible for the long-term vision).
neutral Elizabeth Spacilova : The right term for theater/opera ... not so much for filmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_director#In_film

Yeah, I know, this was before Petr clarified it was for a film.
