I don't have time to research this, but instinctively (and based on your photo) I want to call this a trench because it's for a person, whereas an artillery pit would be for the entire unit: the gun(s) and all the operators and support people; or else little pits for ammo and other stuff. I realize you said that you're already translating окоп as trench, but AFAIK окоп can be either trench or foxhole. And there's also ячейка and sometimes (одиночная) щель for foxhole. Also upon first thought, I don't see a problem with using "trench" for both окоп and ровик.
