French term

heurtant

French to English Marketing Marketing / Market Research Survey results
I am translating the results of a Belgian French market research survey from a gas company.

I have this phrase:

Je trouve que c'est un peu heurtant concernant l'entretien des citernes à gaz,

I've never heard "heurtant" used like this. I've found it on Belgian websites but I still can't understand from context. Any help would be appreciated.

GP Translations (asker) Feb 14, 2017:
apologies Hi It's a survey for customers of a gas supplier (who it appears deliver by truck to people's tanks) They are being asked about their experiences with said supplier. The question here is Q6) Finally, do you have any additional comments to make regarding your experience with xxx company?

@Asker I agree with Tony's comment below. Without that information, it's a really bad idea to guess.
Charles Davis Feb 13, 2017:
Upsetting looks good to me. It can mean something like offensive or brusque. I agree that the word choice depends on the context.
Laurette Tassin Feb 13, 2017:
I suggest "upsetting" but as Tony says we have no context.
Tony M Feb 13, 2017:
Context? What is the survey actually about, and who is answering this, in response to what question?

shocking/offensive

Like the others said, which one you choose depends on the overall context.

My gut instinct tells me, though, that "shocking" is probably the most appropriate choice.

... comes as a bit of a shock

i.e. the maintenance charge for the gas tanks comes as a bit of a shock.

I think that's more or less equivalent, taking "c'est un peu heurtant" as the source term, rather than just extracting "heurtant".
