Discussion

JohnMcDove Mar 8, 2017:
Thank you, Tania. Good for the guys who got you first time. But if in the future you include such context as the definition you now have provided, then it is way easier for the people answering and the ones giving "agreement" to give you their input. :-)
Tania5 (asker) Mar 8, 2017:
Sorry guys, I get that context is important but in this case it could have muddled the most simple and direct (‘dictionary like’) term translation I needed. Four of the five answerers below knew exactly what I was asking and gave excellent options; if the answers vary is because “gender nonconforming” is a relatively new term that is not in the dictionary yet but has only one meaning, as someone perfectly described below: ‘Se refiere a personas cuyos comportamientos, acciones o modos de vida no son los convencionales o no se ajustan a (los estereotipos) de su género’. Gracias a todos!
Jennifer Levey Mar 7, 2017:
@Asker Please don’t belittle context.

If you study carefully the answers you’ve received so far – all 5 of them – you will see that some colleagues are assuming one specific context (a person referring to him/herself) and others are assuming a context where the "labelling" is being done by someone else.

You will also observe that I am not the only one here requesting proper context.

Just as your (much simpler) example of "heterosexual" has several context-dependent synonyms in English - and consequently a variety of possible translations in Spanish - so too does "gender nonconforming".
JohnMcDove Mar 7, 2017:
@Tania5. "ANY" context is wider than the Universe. We are big beings, and we are acquainted with several universes, but it IS important for you, to give us some context. If it cannot be super specific, at least some orientation as to what are we talking about. The letter "X", could mean many different things in different contexts. It means one thing in Math, and another in Entertainment. Providing some context will more helpful to YOU... :-)
Tania5 (asker) Mar 7, 2017:
ok, I was asking for the term translation in ANY context, same as if I would ask for the translation of "heterosexual".
Jennifer Levey Mar 7, 2017:
@Asker Despite your repeated assertions to the contrary, the most-appropriate translation of this term is critically dependent on the CONTEXT.

If you want well-targeted and well-reasoned answers, you need to quote a full sentence from your source text - and preferably a full paragraph, so we can "catch" the mood/register.

disagree Marcelo Viera : "conforming" and "conforme" in Spanish are false friends. In Spanish, it means "satisfied"

Pero todo depende del contexto
Note from asker:
No, "gender nonconforming" is a term, like transgender, it doesnt vary depending on context.
I meant to respond, not to select this as the most helpful answer. I still dont know how to say "gender nonconforming" in Spanish.

que no se ajusta a las normas tradicionales del género

Habitualmente se refiere a personas cuyos comportamientos, acciones o modos de vida no son los convencionales o no se ajustan a (los estereotipos) de su género. Suelo verlo unido a gays, lesbianas, transexuales y personas que no se ajustan a las normas convencionales del género (Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Nonconforming People)
Note from asker:
Ésta también es muy buena si no fuera porque tengo que usar el término varias veces en el documento, usaré 'género no conforme', pero muchas gracias!
