Spanish term

Didácticas Específicas

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy Innovative teaching approaches /new technologies
SPAIN. Okay, so "didáctica" means teaching and is usually translated as such, with the adjectival form "didactic" being the most commonly seen example, albeit low frequency, with "Didactics" being relegated to the more recondite areas of academe. My problem is that in the text I'm working on right now, "teaching" doesn't quite cut the cake/fit the bill. So with this query I'm really just trawling for suggestions or brainstorming, if you like. (Please don't refer me to the glossary entries for "didáctica").

"Las Didácticas Específicas requieren de la comprensión de fundamentos, metafísicos, axiológicos, epistemológicos, lógicos, psicológicos y pedagógicos que respondan a los problemas de enseñanza aprendizaje de cada disciplina y puedan dar respuesta de Qué?, Para qué?, Cómo enseñar y evaluar?"

Discussion

Erzsébet Czopyk Mar 30, 2017:
Thank you very much for the link.
neilmac (asker) Mar 30, 2017:
Bologna dixit: "Didactics is also divided into the so called special didactics or teaching methods, among which fall the teaching methods of specific instructional areas." I.e. nothing new under the sun.
neilmac (asker) Mar 30, 2017:
For some reason, I'm unable to post any references below, probably because it's my own query, so here goes: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/0261976960030302
neilmac (asker) Mar 30, 2017:
My solution I'm calling it "special didactics" and "specific didactic training" for now. If the article gets published, I'll take that as justification enough.
neilmac (asker) Mar 26, 2017:
Frequency of use A Google search for "specific training in didactics" garners 4 results. A similar search for "specific training in teaching" gets a quarter of 1 million.
neilmac (asker) Mar 26, 2017:
When I say it's "recondite" I'm really referring to the frequency of usage. "Didactica" is used in Spanish much more often than its calque "didactics" is used in English, where it is usually translated as "teaching". So, in English I think you'll find that "Didactics" is reserved for the pedagogical subdivision studied by academics, whereas "teaching" is the preferred form widely used by the majority. Hence, recondite, i.e. hidden from or largely unused by the majority. QED.
philgoddard Mar 25, 2017:
Neil I don't think "didactics" is recondite. It means teaching methods, and it fits the bill perfectly if "teaching" doesn't.

subject-specific didactic method

The didactic method of instruction is often contrasted with dialectics and the Socratic method; the term can also be used to refer to a specific didactic method, as for instance constructivist didactics.

agree philgoddard : Just "didactics" would do, as in your example.
