Discussion

Herbmione Granger Aug 3, 2017:
I don't know if this helps... The Atlantis was a real space shuttle. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_Atlantis
Strangely, I referenced the RV Atlantis in an earlier but recent question.
Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 3, 2017:
I beg to differ an aircraft can most certainly roll over its wing, and if I could, I would draw a picture.
Scroll down a bit here:http://www.rc-airplane-world.com/rc-airplane-controls.html
Rolling OVER the right/left wing is the motion indicated, whether to the right or to the left.
Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 3, 2017:
I will, thanks! So it's ROLL, drat!

flips over on its left wing

Not possible to "flip over its wing" unless this part of the bodywork had become detached.
The author possibly imagines the spacecraft as having wings for reentering planetary atmospheres.

Ramey thinks the text would be improved with the introduction of pitch/roll/yaw. If the ship turns further than 90°, I would suggest
rolls over, left wing down

I SURRENDER, It's ROLLED over the left wing, which is certainly possible
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : See Lancashireman's comment above.//Pitching/rolling/flipping over your own wing would be like falling over your own leg.

No, you cannot flip, but an aircraft CAN pitch over the left wing, going into a spin.
neutral Lancashireman : rolled? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_principal_axes

Did you see the image? The pitching motion tilts over one or the other side
