おはようございます、皆様へ
Good morning everyone!

助けていただければ幸いです。「年齢が50歳未満の青壮年期に股関節痛を訴え」という文章で、「青壮年期」をどう翻訳してもいいでしょうか。
Is there a concise way of translating 青壮年期 into English (instead of e.g. "young and early-middle-aged adults" or similar? I have gone through far too many of these!)

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to help!

adult

I did some googling and found it translated as simply "adult" in a few places. I think the age is made clear by the 50歳未満. If they were elderly, and not young to middle-aged, they would make that clear by stating the age or using another term like 高齢者. You could say "adults in their prime years"/"prime of life", but that doesn't sound appropriate to me (speaking from very limited experience) for a medical text. It seems redundant to say young to middle aged adults under the age of 50.

Not too confident, but hope it helps.

young adults and adults below 50

People in 青年期 are "young adults" like those in junior and senior high school.
As for 50歳未満の壮年期, "adults below 50" is sufficient.

adolescence and prime-age adults

Note from asker:
Thank you for your answer! This was an excellent and well explained answer, but in the end, I went with a different choice. This is also very valid and well-worded!

Thank you!
agree Hyeyoung Park : I think this should be "adolescents and prime-aged adults." Adolescent refers to people, but adolescence to the period of development. Also, I prefer "prime-aged" over "prime-age," but this is a matter of personal preference.

You are right about "adolescents." I wish I could edit this :) Thank you!
