(access) road Explanation: I think this is the meaning here. One of the things plataforma can mean is a road passable to vehicles. It doesn't necessarily imply a surfaced road, as far as I can tell; it just refers to the carriageway(s) plus the shoulders if any: "El conjunto de la calzada y los arcenes forman una plataforma." https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcén Here again are the references I quoted in the discussion area; the first, in particular, seems relevant, since it refers to what seems to be a mountain road running through forest in Huesca: "El peralte es la inclinación que se le da a la plataforma de la pista hacia el centro de la curva." There is also this from the Canaries, with "plataforma" apparently used in the same sense: "Mejorar las condiciones y la seguridad de la conducción, actuando sobre la plataforma de la pista y la capa de rodadura" http://heytenerife.es/es/propuestas-de-gobierno/Mejora-de-ta... Termium gives plataforma with this meaning, offering "roadway" or "roadbed" as equivalents: http://www.btb.termiumplus.gc.ca/tpv2alpha/alpha-eng.html?la... However, I think that just "road" would be better here. "Roadway" is really a synonym of "road", with the drawback that in American English it means what we call a carriageway in British English, and in this case I don't think it's referring specifically to the roadbed, but just to a road that vehicles can use, and not necessarily a surfaced road, as far as I can see. I think you might add "access", since perhaps that idea is implicit in "pista". |
