German term

Bildsystem

German to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
In a document from a university requesting funding for a project that explores a work of art in its historical context
The word "Bildsystem" "Bildsysteme" appears often in the text. Although the word Bildsystem is frequently found in German artistic discourse, I have difficulty finding its equivalent in English. Pictoral conceptualisation? Imagery arrangement? Structure? Concept?

Example sentence:

Change log

May 21, 2018 00:25: David Hollywood changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Helen Shiner, Lancashireman, David Hollywood

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Helen Shiner May 20, 2018:
Non-Pro This isn’t a non-Pro question. It should be changed really for future users of the glossary.

Cubism profoundly affected the Russian avant-garde, the Italian Futurists and the British Vorticists among others. The Cubist destruction of the traditional Western pictorial system left the door open for radical artistic experimentation that continues today.

Thanks and hi Ramey!
neutral philgoddard : Except we don't know what medium this is - it sounds like it may be sculpture or installation.

Hi Phil, it is goldsmithery, but in any case, it does not matter. The term could be applied to any kind of visual media.
agree Lancashireman : Happy constellations!
