"old school tie"

This is the best equivalent that I can think of in English. "Copinage" usually means according favours to your mates, with scant regard for their ability or qualifications to do the job in hand.

My suggestion is:
"The 1997-1998 revealed abuses such as old school tie capitalism, lack of risk assessment or management and a predominance of short-term financing".

copinage is friendship but here with a derogatory meaning.
