This document describes agricultural projects in DRC Africa to encourage the adoption of agroforestry techniques as opposed to traditional slash&burn fallow, etc.
Any suggestions?

For Canada you could use "corridor planting."

@All With thanks to "Bourth" who was a long-standing respected member of the proz community, his contribution to his discussion:
--"plantation en layon" referred to as the "strip planting method" here:

--2) Strip planting: This system should be used in agroforestry projects. Planting strips must not be more than 30 m wide while the width of area untouched between strips should not be more than 20 m wide. Other species can be planted together with the main species to provide shade, but they should be eliminated in time to provide for enough space for good growth performance of the main species.

SO, whether your "layons" are in tropical forests (the most common case on the Web) or in cleared land (Canadian case), "strip planting" appears to work for both.

I think that describes it best :)

@All I was thinking "strip planting"...

Setting a line of trees in narrow lanes ("corridors") cut through undergrowth at more or less regular intervals (sometimes at their final crop spacing), as typically in wet-tropical forest types.

Also:

The best known enrichment system is no doubt line planting, the so-called "enrichissement par layons" which has been propagated in French-speaking Africa for
50 years, especially by AUBREVILLE (1937). The original method was later modified by Catinot and a number of variation is now found in many parts of the tropics. (Lamprecht 1989).

in rows

Trees are planted in parallel rows along the contour to prevent soil erosion by rain and wind. Also called "contour planting".
Peer comment(s):

agree Yolanda Broad : "contour planting" would be the logical way to express this in English.
