Dutch term

wisseldienst

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Human Resources
my document makes a clear distinction between wisseldienst and 2/3 ploegendienst.
Vroege wisseldienst - maandag t/m vrijdag van 6.00-14.30
Late wisseldienst - maandag t/m vrijdag van 09.30-18.00

whereas the ploegen work at night etc.

Thanks for any enlightenment

Discussion

Richard Purdom (asker) May 24, 2019:
The client has explained it as: Ploegendienst is altijd opvolgend op elkaar (ploegen wisselen elkaar af), een wissel rooster hoeft niet perse in ploegen te zijn.
Didier Declercq (X) May 15, 2019:

I now understand the conundrum. And the difference in overtime pay is only related to the ploegendienst involving night work? Nothing else?

Richard Purdom (asker) May 15, 2019:
I was provisionally using rotating shift, that's when your shift varies from one day to the other, but obviously the client is going to have to clarify this. There is a real difference for them, since the text is from an employee handbook and explains that overtime pay for wiseldienst and ploegdienst is different
Didier Declercq (X) May 15, 2019:
I agree that it's weird According to ornet.nl, wisseldienst is any arrangement of ploegendiensten.

This would mean that there is no such thing as vroege wisseldienst and late wisseldienst (which by the way yield only 1 google hit), only vroege dienst and late dienst, even if they overlap.

Michael Beijer May 14, 2019:
weird I always though they were synonyms.

wisseldienst = rotating/rotational shifts
ploegendienst = fixed shifts
