: Depending on context, speaker/writer & target audience, "bilateral hip degeneration" is also encountered, though it may be considered a little more informal.

Degenerative joint disease is a diagnosis not a sign. Signs of osteoarthritis (DJD) means there are signs of a specific disease -which is not what the original conveys.
Degenerative joint disease: Also known as osteoarthritis, this type of arthritis is caused by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints.

Sometimes called degenerative joint disease or degenerative arthritis, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic condition of the joints, affecting approximately 27 million Americans. ... In the final stages of OA, the cartilage wears away and bone rubs against bone leading to joint damage and more pain.
