German term

Nachdrücken

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Patent for dosing device
Durch das Umkehren der Drehrichtung des Mischers wird das Material entgegen der Förderrichtung zurückgezogen. Dadurch kann das Nachtropfen oder **Nachdrücken** des Materials verhindert werden.

So far I am considering:

dripping or pressing out
continued pressing out

Is there perhaps a better solution?

Discussion

Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) Jul 25, 2019:
'Force out' does not imply human intervention. At least not in science / technology.

ooze Very good, Alison. 'Run-on' (hyphenated) as a noun form is also good - better than the rather clumsy gerund form 'running on'.
I don't like 'force out' in this context, Heike, because it implies deliberate human intervention.
Alison MacG Jul 25, 2019:
For info This German company refers frequently to Nachtropfen/Nachdrücken and a number of different translations can be found on their English-language pages. One or two of the better examples:

Nachtropfen / Nachdrücken des Mediums [p.20]

Dripping / running on of the medium [p. 20]

Thank you Thank you all for your suggestions. My favorites are seepage and forcing out.

squeezing

Aus dem Bereich Metallverarbeitung kenne ich dieses "Nachdrücken von Material" als "squeezing"
Example sentence:

Thereby, squeezing of material can be prevented.

Peer comment(s):

neutral D. I. Verrelli : I don't think "squeezing" is necessarily exactly right, because it doesn't convey the idea that material 'escapes' (or at least moves). But (based on discussions here) I would like "squeezing out".

This prevents seepage caused by a delayed response.
This prevents seepage due to process lag.

For the doublet "Nachtropfen oder Nachdrücken":
This prevents the material from dripping or seeping out...
