In the patent itself there is a clear connection with precise measurement/comparison of time. For example:

They demonstrate a clear correspondence between "Abschlag" and stopping of the race. But also (and not entirely systematically) with the corresponding evaluation of the time — a closely related issue.
For example
"Wettflug abgeschlagen/ausgewertet. Eingesetzte Tauben, die zum Zeitpunkt des Abschlagens noch nicht konstatiert wurden, werden als "nichtgewertete Tauben" markiert (Symbol "Ø")."
