English term

mill tolerance

English to Portuguese Tech/Engineering Petroleum Eng/Sci
This is a document on Baseline Inspection

The Importance of Baseline Inspections

Baseline inspections are commonly used for code compliance verification, however, they also provide excellent opportunities to initiate a corrosion monitoring database.
Therefore, it is important to have accurate baseline data and the effect it can have on prediction accuracy and integrity resource allocation.
Prediction of inspection, maintenance and repair activities require detailed knowledge on deterioration rates. Common practice can include using nominal wall thickness as a replacement for accurate baseline measurements. However, large variations (i.e. mill tolerance) can occur, resulting in inaccurate deterioration rates, incorrect scheduling of activities and significant increased life cycle cost.

Intolerância ou tolerância ?? mill tolerance => ??
Mario Freitas Nov 16, 2019:
@ Ana Talvez seja mais uma diferença entre Pt-Pt e Pt-Br. Intolerância "de" em Pt-Br não é comum, a menos que se esteja falando da intolerância do material, por exemplo: intolerância do plástico ao calor. Ainda assim, a intolerância seria a alguma coisa.
Ana Vozone Nov 16, 2019:
"tolerância de usinagem" Neste caso, o "de" não me parece estar incorreto, penso eu.
Mario Freitas Nov 16, 2019:
Mill tolerance The term refers to the tolerance of the material(s). It may be the material the pipe is made of, though. But it can also be the material of the lining (metal), the paint, the coating (rubber), etc.
Eu ficaria com tolerância ao processamento em moinho. Lembrando que tolerância requer a preposição "a" e não "de". Tolerância "de" seria a tolerância do material e não ao processo.

Mill Tolerance According to my understanding, Mill Tolerance is the tolerance for variation in the thickness of pipe from nominal pipe thickness which is 12.5% according to B31.3.Feb 4, 2012

tolerância de variação de espessura

Essa tolerância varia de acordo com a as especificações do material em questão.

"...Mill tolerance comes from the manufacturing process of seamless pipe. Welded pipes have a tolerance as well, but usually is not a mill tolerance and it is much lower because it’s more easy to get high accurancy when producing steel plates. On the other hand welded pipes need to consider the weld joint efficiency factor, to take in account the weakness in the welding."

"...Values of mill tolerance are defined in the material standards. For example paragraph 16-3 of ASTM A 106 states “the mimimum wall thickness at any point shall be not more than 12.5% under the nominal wall thickness specified”."
