Liebe KollegInnen,

in meinem Text geht es um die allseits bekannten Tech-Giganten und deren Auswirkungen auf den Datenschutz.

Google and Facebook are facing EU antitrust probes as well.

These investigations are very complex and will probably take a lot of time.

Internet giants will defend themselves by stating that competition is very intense, and is intensifying at an accelerating pace, "and the reason why."

Between them of course, but not only.

Dieses "and the reason why" kommt mir hier irgendwie fehl am Platz vor ... oder stehe ich auf dem Schlauch?

Incidentally, I'm maybe old-fashioned, but I absolutely deplore the expression "the reason why". "The reason" IS why something happens, and the word "WHY" is totally unnecessary.

Das macht so erstmal keinen Sinn. In Ermangelung weiterer Info schlage ich eine mehr oder weniger freie Übersetzung vor.

Nein, Rolf. Probleme. Die kartellrechtliche Prüfung haben sie sich ja nun nicht ausgesucht, sondern die wird ihnen auferlegt.

Das brauchst Du mir nicht zu erklären, Björn. Es ist mir vollkommen klar. Dennoch war mein Text anders gemeint. Man kann sich da als Kritiker manchmal auch in etwas verrennen.
