gestion directe v. gestion déléguée

French to English Bus/Financial Manufacturing
I know these terms have come up before, but I find the answers rather confusing. The is in the context of asset management, for a group of companies, and a difference is made between "gestion directe" and "gestion déléguée". I know what they mean but am struggling to find two simple terms in English.

Yes, but .... in "gestion directe vs. gestion déléguée" the dichotomy is between
the company / group of companies doing their own asset management as opposed to "delegating the task" to some third party. i.e. "internal as opposed to external"

The aspect that is relevant here is that the "discretionary management" is done by / delegated to a third party, so from the viewpoint of the owners of these funds, the "discretionary management" is seen as an "external function"

Yes, discretionary management is generally used for end clients who use a discretionary manager to make investment decisions on the client's behalf. It depends if your source text is talking about an end client getting someone to manage their investments, or a fund management company getting a third party to do some of their fund management activities I think.

If we're talking about the management of investment funds, this might be of use. But ultimately, I think delegated management is used in English in this context (i.e. the fund manager delegates some of its fund management activities to a third party)

Here "gestion directe / gestion déléguée" are terms used from the view point of the owner of the assets so:

gestion directe = funds are managed by the owner(s)

gestion déléguée = funds are managed by some third party that was given delegated authority to do it.

A company with plenty of "funds" to invest - like an insurance company - may well have their own / internal "fund management unit/department".

I can't see the link between the "delegations" of the EU (for all practical purposes the "embassies" of the EU / still part of the EU) and the "delegated management" of someone else's funds.

Asset management connotes a different tack AmE than BrE: to literal translations,
Example sentence:

Active asset management involves analyzing market trends, economic and political data, and company specific news.

Discretionary investment management is a form of professional investment management in which investments are made on behalf of clients through a variety of securities.

disagree Daryo : in BOTH cases it's someone else's money that's managed => "la gestion directe" is missing.// in this ST "gestion directe" means the company (i.e. a department within ...) is doing the "fund management" NOT some ousiders.

Of course it's someone else's money that is managed. Active is the direct part that you have in fact reworded as inhouse - one word or hyphenated - in your own answer unsupported by any authorities.
