What does "I think I sell up my boys figure" mean?

At the doctor's

Dr.: I'm going to start by looking in your eyes and what I would like you to do is to stare at the wall there, OK.
M: Is it enough?
Dr.: That's right. OK ... How is your health in general?
M: It's fine.
Dr.: Good, and what about your family's health.
M: They're great. They're all healthy.
Dr.: Good. Your eyes look normal.
M: Aha.
Dr.: I'm going to look into your ears now.
M: OK, I can still here my stereo sound.
Dr.: That's good... Do you take any medications?
M: No, I don't.
Dr.: And do you have any allergies?
M: No, not that I know of.
Dr.: Good. OK your ears look normal.
M: Aha.
Dr.: Now, I'd like to measure your height and weight.
M: OK.
Dr.: If you could come over to the scale here.
M: OK.
Dr.: That's very good.
M: I think I sell up my boys figure.
Dr.: Yes, indeed. You weigh 162 pounds, and err --.5 feet 10 inches tall.
M: Great.
Dr.: Good, come back over here and I'll continue the examination.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Catharine Cellier-Smart, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

at 162 lbs right in the middle of the range - for you - apparently - "boyish" can only mean skinny

Hi, Yvonne
If you want, I can send you this section of video & text via mail.
Yvonne Gallagher Nov 21, 2020:
@ all top end of range With normal weight for a 5'10" person "from 129 to 174 pounds" (WHO) I fail to see how this could be described as "boyish" for someone near the top end of that range, at 162 lbs .
Definitely NOT correct. This question should have been closed without grading as "other" and should not have a glossary entry.

@ Tony not Canadan usage at all to my knowledge though possibly a French Canadian with below-par English. "sell up" is wrong here imo but don't know what it should be. Perhaps I "shall up" = increase

Hi, Tony, I would like to thank you for your answers to my previous questions.
Tony M Nov 20, 2020:
@ Asker Ah, well that's important extra context we needed from the outset!
It's possible that this is a specifically Canadian usage.

I think I still have my boyish figure.

i think i sell up my boys figure => I think I still have my boyish figure.

>Dr.: Yes, indeed. You weigh 162 pounds, and err --.5 feet 10 inches tall.
that definitly would be considered a boyish figure - not fat

sell up => still got => still have
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : But what justification can you find for 'sell up' = 'still have'? Normally, if you 'sell up' something, in EN it means you no longer have it. / Exactly as I have just explained: expressions like 'sell up', 'give up' etc. all mean 'no longer have'.

what justification can you find for 'sell up' in the other sugestion?
neutral philgoddard : It's a BMI of 23.2, which is normal. Not fat, but not boyish either.
1 hr
ok - and how do you define boyish?
neutral Yvonne Gallagher : just as plausible. Impossible to say what this means as it's so garbled. Very high CL but at least you got "my boyish figure" right

what does "Very high CL"mean?
neutral Daryo : what does "Very high CL"mean? Don't you know???? You did notice that setting your "Confidence Level" when answering a question is part of your answer???

and your point is??
agree Brent Sørensen : I think “still have” may have been misheard as “sell up” and “boyish” as “boys” … possibly by voice recognition software. I think this makes sense logistically. It’s the kind of thing somebody would say ironically.

thank you
neutral writeaway : This is no more than a guess to an incomprehensible, not very English sounding question. It certainly doesn't belong in the glossary

agree philgoddard : This would be my guess. It's written by someone whose first language is not English.

unfortunately a bad practice, thanks
neutral Sheila Wilson : Not so sure. That seems quite light for an older man.
42 mins
it's just a guess he made before going to the scale, thanks
neutral Yvonne Gallagher : sorry, with Sheila. I can't agree as the other answer is just as plausible. Impossible to say what this means as it's so garbled. high CL "my boys figure" is incorrect.

boyish, thanks

I think I still look good for my age

This is not good English and does not make sense.

From the context of the sentence I guessed that this is a statement about BMI and checked that the man's BMI is normal.

You could write either 'I still have my boyish figure' or 'I think I still look good for my age' depending on the tone you are trying to convey
