Spanish term
las formas sociales del tiempo
Spanish to English
Social Sciences
Education / Pedagogy
I am translating a long series of active learning activities for pre-school children. When the games focus on concepts such as days, months, the calendar, etc. the content is described as "formas sociales del tiempo: los días de la semana", for example". This appears in the official curriculum for "educación infantil" under Spanish law. I can think, however, of no corresponding expression in English. Things like "periods of time" or "time expressions" do not really fit. I am thinking of putting something like "Understanding time: days of the week". I wonder if anyone else can think of anything better.

social constructs of time
Here's another example clarifying what it means:
Las formas sociales del tiempo: los días de la semana, las estaciones y algunos hechos relevantes como las fiestas y tradiciones

There are lots of other possible translations: "basic concepts of time", "time in everyday life", "the meaning of time", "introduction to time"...

: Sounds a wee bit daunting as a concept, though strictly correct

You wouldn't say "Right, children, we're going to study social concepts of time". This is educational terminology for teachers and parents, so "daunting" doesn't come into it.

calendar vocabulary
Lexical sets are interesting when we group words together according to their connections. I suggest either one or two vocabulary sets for the calendar (months of the year and days of the week) and another separate one for telling the time. Dates to qualify the days of the week should probably follow with numerical sets.
Example sentence:
Conjuntos léxicos son interesates cuando agrupamos palabras según sus conexiones. Sugiero uno u dos conjuntos léxicos para los meses del año y los días de la semana, y otro conjunto aparte para enseñar las horas del reloj.
Las fechas que van con los días de la semana siguen probablemente con conjuntos numéricos.
